About Us / How We Began

While updating the website, I notice something very important was missing, how the Lookout Inn Lodge began.

It started the same as most in the Osa Peninsula and probably all of Costa Rica.  While on vacation we fell in love with the area and the people, it was the right time and place in our lives for an adventure and an adventure it was!  We could write a book about what to do or not to do, what to bring, not bring, etc., so we’ll just leave that part out.

We filled a 20 foot sea container with everything we had plus what we thought we needed and moved onto the property and lived in a small trailer while the house was being built.  There was truly nothing there but jungle and living like pioneers was quite an experience.  Those who have been there are still amazed at the construction and architectural design of Paul Clift and his talented crew.  Terry and I were there every day putting in our share of work and ideas and the construction and landscaping continues even 10 years later.

After four plus years and a lot of hard work, but fulfilling and memorable times, I returned to the United States to be with family. Terry now owns and operates the look out inn lodge with his beautiful wife Katya and they have a favorite saying "Come as a guest and leave as family".

Terry and Katya are doing an amazing job running the Inn with great success.  Terry continues to build and add to the Inn with his non-stop energy along with Katya who charms our guests and handles the business and daily duties that are endless for both of them.  They have a favorite saying “Come as a guest and leave as family” and from our guest comments, this is exactly what happens.

We strive to make your vacation at the Lookout Inn your best and most memorable vacation ever.  Our goal is to not only have you leave as family but return as family.
