I had a fantastic time! I went by myself and during the rainy season when most people don't so I got a lot of attention from Terry and Katya who were awesome hosts.
I stayed 8 nights. The place is really cool. I stayed in a treehouse called the Swing Inn. It was all open but I didn't even get a mosquito bite. Terry relayed that people smell bad so no animal wants us as there is plenty better out there for them!...I hope.
What a great tale to tell when you get home, tho, and a great memory. (They also have all-enclosed rooms.) I fell asleep each night to the breaking surf or rain, of course, and woke to birds at sunrise. Coffee was waiting and lots of it. Views from my room were of the ocean and beautiful foliage. The Swing Inn had its own large bathroom area and plenty of hot water and American Standard toilet; a living room area with a hammock; and of course the rope bed. Either Katya or her kids were always willing to go on hikes with me.
The whole area is like Gilligan's Island, describing it doesn't do it justice. No one's on the beach for miles. I went horseback riding, hiked to the waterfalls, lagoon (which opened to the ocean due to all of the rain - something to see!), Corcovado, and walked baby turtles to the ocean. I only had one really rainy day which is when I got a facial and pedicure from Katya that were great.
Meals were delicious (we had baby shrimp the day the lagoon opened to the ocean) and dinners were served upstairs by candlelight. Of course, animals everywhere.
I'll be back with my niece and nephew next year and wouldn't hesitate to go back during the rainy season either.

We spent 6 days in Feb. at the Lookout Inn. We had planned our whole vacation from information off the Inn’s website, from choosing rooms to arranging flight times. Once booked, the Inn arranged for our taxi from Puerto Jimenez to the Inn, and back when we departed. You can fly from Puerto Jimenez to Carate (close to the Inn) but we would recommend the hour and half taxi just to see more of the area.
This was our first visit to Costa Rica and we weren’t sure what to expect, the website had a lot of information, but you’re just never sure the place will live up to its description. It did.
We stayed in the Monkey House, up the side of the hill with magnificent views of the jungle and ocean. It will be our first choice on our return visit. Meals were included in the price, and oh what meals! Fresh fruits, juices, vegetables, fish, breads and desserts. The gracious owners, Terry & Katya were available every day for visiting, answering questions or arranging side trips.
We spent most of our days on the beach, ocean kayaking, hiking in the jungle, lazing in the pool and visiting with the other guests. With only nine rooms the group was small and we spent as much or as little time with other people as we wished. No matter what we were doing we saw the most beautiful plants and flowers, exotic birds and animals: from monkeys to macaws, to humpback whales and more.
It was a wonderful adventure from beginning to end, and we hated to leave. We will return.

Our time at the Lookout Inn was a memory I'll have with me forever. Terry and Katya are fabulous people and hosts and as everyone else says, we felt like we were with family. Looking at the website after I've been there is like watching home movies...only now I know it's even better in person. The meals were an event every night, and being with new people - in that environment...to us it felt quite magical. Thank you to Terry, Katya, Chris, Ugi and everyone at the Lookout. We'll be back.
Favorite Activity: Happy Hour and dinner! and hiking and doing nothing!
Best Wildlife Seen: Terry!! Puma-lunching on a monkey in Corcavado - Scarlett McCaws, monkeys, coati, hummers, whale!

We LOVED the Lookout inn. We loved staying with Terry and Katya ...We felt very much at home and even after just one night - they truly made us feel like one of their family. We did not want to leave! We had hiked in the park for 2 days .... and when we arrived the sight of the Lookout Inn and the welcome that we got were a fabulous feeling. Terry is a truly lively and welcoming host - and I cannot say enough about Katya and her style and charm...I felt as if we were leaving longtime friends when we left :( ...we will definitely be back someday.

We found the Lookout by mistake. This is one of the most beautiful places to stay in the world. It is worth the drive. The food is fabulous, I recommend the seared tuna). The nights with the ocean crashing down and waking up to macaw’s and monkeys outside your room make this the place where I plan to take my honeymoon. I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone whether you are a cheap traveller or one where money is no object, this place is so worth every penny, you have to see it to believe it.

This experience was incredible. Terry was an awesome host and made us feel right at home. The staff was so friendly and the food was terrific. We loved the hike we followed on Terry’s pirate like treasure map and also just lounging on the beach reading. We drove into the Look-Out Inn in late November and didn’t have one problem, although we’re fairly used to 4-wheeling in the mountains. I think one of the most amazing things was showering right in the forest surrounded by lots of whose-its and whats-its and just looking at the masterpiece Terry has created. It’s very laid back and yet adventurous at the same time. We loved every minute, although sleeping in the Tiki hut took me a night to get used to (there’s lots of noises out in the jungle). Thanks to everyone. We loved it all... like the powerful drinks! Especially love how sweet Yugie was.

We had a fantastic time at the Lookout Inn! The food was wonderful, the hospitality marvelous, and the overall experience truly unique and relaxing. We genuinely felt like special guests in Terry and Katya?s uniquely beautiful home. Everyone in their family and on their staff went out of their way to be sure that we had the opportunity to experience all that this marvelous region of Costa Rica has to offer. Highly recommended!

The danger of writing a review about the Lookout Inn is that you tend to use clich? upon clich? - words like paradise, heavenly, divine, breathtaking, spectacular, superb, fun, delicious, unforgettable (I could go on). And you know what? It’s all true! So, apologies for taking the well-travelled clich? route, there’s just no other way to go - actually there is, you take the road from Puerto Jiminez to Carate and when you get to the end of the road, that?s where paradise is waiting for you - in the form of the Lookout Inn, Terry and Katja, and their wonderful staff. The warm welcome is hard to beat (even at home in Ireland), as is the food, the drink, the fun and, of course, the location. When surfing the net for a special place to spend part of our honeymoon, we found this place and thought... will it REALLY be as good as it looks and sounds on its website? Believe us, it?s better. We'd go back right now if we could... and some day soon we will go back. In fact it’s so great, that we’d travel to Costa Rica ONLY to stay at the Lookout and enjoy the hospitality and the serenity. Book now, don?t hesitate a moment longer! You won’t regret it!
Favorite Activity: Not sure where to start: showering in outdoor Tiki-Hut shower, swimming, walking on beach, hiking, animal-watching, eating, drinking (beer & margaritas), talking, laughing, honeymooning (!), just
Best Wildlife Seen: Tapir, 4 species of monkey, anteaters, quatis, crocs, macaws, pelicans, tree frogs, bats.
