About a week ago, a tiny Squirrel Monkey appeared around the perimeter of The Lookout Inn's main decks. It was traveling solo, shivering, and had suffered some attack or injury, as it had a large gash evident on its side. The poor little thing was quite afraid, but hunger made it a bit bolder. It eventually succumbed to temptation and timidly accepted the sweet banana left for it to try.
After a few days of bananas, scrambled eggs, bread, honey, and peanut butter (but what he seems really partial to is margarine) and other treats, the little monkey was downright perky-running around chittering away at whoever would listen, and being downright endearing.
We began to call him Bob-Shirley, as, we weren't sure which moniker fit correctly, and we all were happy to see his monkey spunkiness shine through as his wound receeded. Momma mono never did show up and Bob-Shirley has become more secure, sleeping in a tree about 3 feet away from The lookout's deck or under the roof eve right near Katya and Terry's office.
As of today Bob-Shirley has officially become Bob (but we're going to keep Shirley as his last name). He comes for his breakfast and his dinner, swings through Carate's beautiful rainforest for the rest of the day, and actually has started to communicate his readiness for his meals with hand motions-amazing.
So one little orphan monkey named Bob has a safer place to sleep, a place to call his own, and the Lookout Inn gets to see a real mischevious youngster grow up.
