After living at the Lookout Inn on the Osa Peninsula for 12 days, Katya thought it was only right for me to experience a bit of the jungle. So after breakfast we embarked on what would turn into a very rewarding walk. The plan was to walk to another beach house and check in with the care takers. After a nice forty minute walk down the beach we came upon a small stream. At this point Katya began climbing the hillside on a trail that blended right in a long the plants. Once up the small hill we were at the house. We drank some water and grabbed a couple walking sticks and without any hesitation we were on our way into the jungle.
I wasn't completely prepared for a jungle trek, however I was confident that my guide would help if we were to have any trouble. Quickly the terrain changed and Katya warned me to walk slow and watch my every step. Because the jungle here on the Osa Peninsula is one of the most diverse in the world, it is very important to pay attention to your surroundings. I was quickly impressed with Katya's ability to spot and detect creatures surrounding us. Before no time we spotted this Spiny-tailed Iguana.

As we hiked higher into the jungle we came across something we had been searching for, the Green and Black Poison Dart Frog:
Not only did we see one, Katya spotted three all together!
After all the frog excitement we came across the Central American Spider Monkey sleeping high in the trees. A little further along the trail we nearly ran right into the web of a Golden Orb Weaver. I for one do not like spiders, however with Katya helping me I slowly crawled underneath the gigantic web and continued forward.
It was a fabulous hike and I am very thankful to have Katya as a guide. She knows here wildlife and the Osa Peninsula very well. Hopefully another hike is in order soon! PURA VIDA!
