Lookout Inn Tropical Update
The high season is over and it was a great one for all of us. Weather was perfect up until May when we received 53 inches of rain. June has been much dryer thank God...because I know there is much more to come. My prediction for the year is normal conditions with only 220 inches or so of rain with lots of sun. Will let you know how accurate I am when I write to you in December.
The baby scarlet macaws are getting off their nests this month so there are large flocks all over the neighborhood. I remember counting over 120 macaws in one group last year in August while walking up our drive-way. So...if you know anyone who loves parrots, this is the time and the place to visit them.
This is also the best time of the year for fresh fruits like mango, avocado and ten others I can't spell. Our garden has mango's and avocado's falling out of the trees, of course the white face monkeys do not help by shaking the branches!
The sea turtles are arriving on our black sand beach for the next 6 months. We just had a huge leather back turtle laying eggs only 200 meters from the Lookout Inn last week. The National Save the Sea Turtle foundation is here again collecting and protecting turtle eggs from the stray dogs and the poachers. The will probably collect and secure approximately 30,000 eggs this season in their nursery this season. That is a lot of time and work on the beach and most of the hours are at night.
